There’s me in my 50s style kitchen waiting for my husband to come home from his job in the city. Not really though.
Hello, you. My name is Aoife and i thunk i can has cook. Based on the tropical island of Ireland – in the metropolis of Dublin – I hope to keep this blog up as a record of the recipes that worked for me and the ones that didn’t.
This blog is about my own personal journey back into the kitchen. It’s about me learning to cook again. I am essentially a beginner so please don’t get offended if I cook things for too long, display ignorance of the lesser known members of the food family or blend ingredients that make your culinary cuticles ache. Bear with me – I hope to improve. Any of your feedback and tips would be much appreciated!
I listen to a lot of music when I cook, so I’ll be putting up an mp3 with each post. If you are the artist of the music – or indeed are an associate of the artist – and are not happy about it being up on the blog then I will of course remove the offending mp3s.
You can contact me at aoifemcelwain[at]gmail[dot]com.
And so…I hope you enjoy this blog.
MP3
For our first mp3, how about this little ditty from Harry Nilsson? I imagine most people remember Kermit’s version as opposed to Harry’s. Probably one of my favourite food related songs.
Harry Nilsson – Coconut

Lolcats. Lol.

)! Your voice has become an great companion while cycling through Berlin!
I found your blog because you commented on my lovely ex-housemates’ blog: Lola-Lu’s Kitchen. When I read your FAIL-post I thought, maybe it’s a coincedence, but the Niall who intervened might be the guy blogging in nialler9.com, so I checked and yes, he is!
I listen to your podcasts regularly since I moved to Dublin last october and still do after I had to move back to Germany (Yes, I’m Anne, the creator of the potatoe soup…
Lots of luck with your next pastry!

P.S. I know the problem of running around Dublin city to find one special ingredient, happened to with both puff pastry (finally found it in Tesco on Parnell street) and capers (Tesco in Jervis this time…). It’s a pain but makes the meal afterwards especially rewarding!
